Last night

Last night (Saturday) was a good night. Gwenn and I had helped a lady from her work move yesterday. Near the end we received a text from Christi (and yes I can send a text message) saying a friend of hers was having a birthday party last evening and could we watch the kids for a couple of hours. We said yes.
Jamie and LJ came over and we all had a good time. Gwenn was surprised because they even got Grandpa playing the Wii, Super Mario Brothers no less. Before the evening was over Grandma was evening playing Super Mario Brothers. I popped up a big batch of buttered pop corn. I think the grandkids like it better than Gwenn and I. All I know is that when they left there was much left for Grandpa and Grandma. Thats OK, we each had a bowl when the kids got their "first bowl" of what seemed like many. Between the Wii, popcorn and A & W root beer (yes, diet) I think they did ok. Yep, it was a good night.
A quick note regarding our other grandson, Jacob. He and his family have moved north to Bellingham, Washington. We don't get to see him quite as often as he is a couple of hours away. Rob still gets with him quite a bit and we still get to see him. The little bounder gets better looking everyday. I'm talking about Jake, not Rob. Rob is a big bounder. Take that Rob!

Belated Happy Birthday To.....

Robert Goodsell, who spent his birthday doing a trial run of eloping to Las Vegas...Great practical joke there Bobbie!  He claims to be still single, but (on the QT) I don't think that's going to last much longer :)

Happy Birthday Robert

(BTW...I know I sometimes miss a birthday here and there, but I'm not the only one who can do birthday wishes...Feel Free to jump in with your own wishes as well.)

Where Is Everyone?

So...the holidays are over and life should be getting back to normal...So...Why is nobody posting to the site?  Is life that boring?  Has anyone got anything to say?

I went on two job interviews last week...WooHoo...that is the most in a given week so far.  In fact, that brings me to an all time total of THREE job interview in the last nine months...Things are looking up :)

Robert just returned from two and a half weeks in Desert Hot Springs, to see his pain doctor and to help our old neighbor (John) who has been quite ill recently.  His next trip may be in March (if not before) as John is getting quite weak.

I have been spending my time looking for and entering records of family members and friends in Find A Grave.  This brings up an interesting question...Some of Mom's family were born in Poplar and some were born in Ririe.  Now I know they were all born in the same place, and there were issues of the county line running through the farm...But really...WHERE WERE THEY BORN?  (This ought to give everyone something to post...What's your idea as to what is, or should be, the official birth place?  Does anyone have a copy of Mom's birth certificate?  What does it say?

Along that same vein...What happened to the family biographies that Mom used to type into her computer?  Does anyone have a copy of them?

Blog Changes

1.)  On the right-hand side, a "Useful Links" gadget has been added.  Currently it has links to Family Search and Find A Grave.  If anyone has links that they would like to have added, please let me know.

2.)  At the very bottom of the blog page is another Find A Grave link.  This is a lookup of specific memorials that I have either added to, or manage, in Find A Grave.  As I have time, I will continue to add to and build my "Virtual Cemeteries" of family members and friends.

Merry Christmas to All, And to All...Oh Bah Hum-bug!

Since I am now in the Christmas Spirit (NOT!) and I am limiting the number of cards that I send out via Uncle Sam and the USPS, I would like to take this opportunity to say...

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL
AND
MAY YOU HAVE A VERY
PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!

A Visit From Jack River

Who’d thunk???

A Black Lab??? In this house??? YES!!!

Last week, we found ourselves adopted by a Black Lab. That’s right, in spite of the objections from Pepe and Chica he insisted on staying with us. On Thursday, November 4, a beautiful Black Lab spent the day wondering up and down our street. One time I loaned a leash to some children so that they could take him home; alas they were wrong and the dog returned. Later, some other children took him from door to door, trying to find his home and alas, he returned again. Somehow, he kept appearing at our front door!

Finally, as it was getting dark, we decided that we would take him in and put him in our back yard for the night. Then, realizing that it was going to be about 30 degrees (F) that night, we decided to make a bed for him in the garage for the night. Friday morning he was happy to see us and we sere happy to see no ‘accidents’ in the garage. I checked the newspaper and Craigslist for Lost Dog listings and there were none that fit the bill. So we decided to call him Black Jack and keep him on. If we could find his owner…good; if not, we would keep him. He was so sweet and gentle.

On Saturday morning, I checked the newspaper and Craigslist again…Still no success. It was apparent that Pepe and Chica were not real happy about this new arrangement…Especially Chica. So I decided that Chica needed quality time with Jack. Since they each enjoyed walks, I started taking them together for walks and the relationship started to warm.

Jack loved long walks, and I would walk him through the entire neighborhood…Nothing appeared familiar to him. I took him to the park and threw sticks for him. He would jump with glee and chase after them and bring them back for me to throw again.

On Monday, I again checked Craigslist, and there is was…

Lost or stolen male black lab. He's a slender build and goes by river. Last seen in Asbury Sub in Nampa around the corner of Midway and Moss Ln. Disappeared out of back yard. Has no collar. Part of the family and sorely missed. If you have seen or might know something please call.

So, there it was…Sad news for us, but happy news for Jack…Or is it River? I looked up from my computer and called out “River” and he came running to me. There you go, I had found Jack’s home. I called the number listed and found that he and his family had only just moved to the neighborhood and on his third day here, Jack/River had gotten out of his yard at the new house. Not being familiar with the new surroundings…Jack/River got lost!

His owner (Darius) came by our house Monday evening, after he got off work, and he and River had a grand reunion. River went home with Darius in the front seat of Darius’ Honda. We were sorry to see him go. But…we expect to see Jack/River again, as we told Darius that whenever he needs someone to look after River, when he goes on vacation, we will be happy to have him stay with us! (And don’t forget…River actually only lives a couple of blocks from our house!)

Change of plans

Ok. As the 16th of November is on the horizon, I have TOTALLY changed gears in the wedding department. I got to thinking about what I really wanted and didn't want. So I have decided to nix the court house. We have a family friend that has a BEAUTIFUL house out in Beavercreek, who is opening up their house to us for the ceremony.

So this is now the plan (well as it stands today, but keep in mind that all of the previous plans changed since Saturday.).  We are going to have a short small ceremony in our friends home. Then on Saturday the 20th we are going to have a casual open house at the church. Hopefully I will have the announcements in the mail the first part of next week. Since I changed plans with only 23 days to the 16th. Down to 20 days.

Am I a little Crazy? I think so. But we all need a little crazy in our family tree right?
